March 31st

Carlton Marsh: four Cattle Egrets in the field next to the original scrape.

Wangford: six Cattle Egrets opposite the Henham quarry entrance.

Minsmere: two Blue-headed Wagtails next to Lucky Pool.

Hollesley: a WHITE-TAILED EAGLE flew north.

Bawdsey: two Purple Sandpipers at East Lane.

Bury St Edmunds: a WHITE-TAILED EAGLE over the A143.

Lakenheath Fen: a WHITE-TAILED EAGLE seen west over Joist Fen watchpoint.​

March 30th

Carlton Marsh: a male Hen Harrier over Share Marsh.

Orford: a Black Redstart by the quay.

Boyton Marsh: a Cattle Egret, a first-winter Caspian Gull and a White Wagtail. Six Spoonbills on the winter flood.

Hollesley Marsh: two Eurasian White-fronted Geese on the scrape.

Flatford: four Hawfinches still near Flatford Bridge.

 

March 29th

Kessingland: a Black Redstart by Heritage Green.

Southwold: a Black Redstart by the crazy golf course.

Minsmere: a Little Ringed Plovers on East Scrape and a Firecrest and a Common Redstart in bushes by East Hide.

North Warren: two Spoonbills on North Marsh.

Hollesley Marsh: a Little Ringed Ploverfour Eurasian White-fronted Geese and a Spoonbill on the scrape.

March 28th

Covehithe: a Scaup on the Broad plus five White Wagtails.

Dunwichthe first Common Redstart of the year at Dunwich cliffs along the main track.

Minsmere: three Little Ringed Plovers on West Scrape.

Aldeburgh Marsh: a White Wagtail.

Landguard: a Black Redstart present.

 

March 27th

Minsmere: two Cranes near Island Mere that later flew north. Little Ringed Plover from East Hide and four Spoonbills on the Levels.

Bawdsey Quay: 1+ Black Redstart along Ferry Road.

 

March 26th

Cortontwo Purple Sandpipers on groynes near the OSW.

Lowestoft: four Black Redstarts by the Denes Oval cricket pitch.

Covehithe: two Scaup on the Broad.

Boyton Marsh: six White Wagtails along the approach track.

Bawdsey Quay: two Black Redstarts along Ferry Road by Marsh Cottages and a Firecrest in the picnic site.

Landguardthree White Wagtails.

Gislingham: a female Black Redstart in the village.

Bury St Edmunds: a male Black Redstart on the hospital rooftop.

 

March 25th

Covehithe: two Scaup on the Broad, an adult Yellow-legged Gull and seven White Wagtails on the cliff top field.

Southwold: a least seven Black Redstarts around the area and 10+ White Wagtails.

North Warren: two Spoonbills and a Black Redstart.

Boyton Marsh: c.150 Eurasian White-fronted Geese.

Hollesley Marsh: four Eurasian White-fronted Geese on the field north of the pill box.

Shingle Street: a Black Redstart still present by the Martello Tower.

Landguardtwo Firecrests, a White Wagtail and a Black Redstart present.

Brockley: a first-winter male Black Redstart.

 

March 24th

Lowestoft: two Black Redstarts by the North Denes nest posts. Nine Purple Sandpipers at Ness Point.

Benacre: two Black Redstarts at Beach Farm.

Walberswick: a male Black Redstart at Westwood Lodge.

Minsmere: the first Sedge Warbler of the year.

North Warren: two Hobbies reported.

Boyton Marsh: 300 Eurasian White-fronted Geese and a Black Redstart by Banters Barn.

Hollesley Marsh: two Eurasian White-fronted Geese and two White Wagtails on the field north of the pill box.

Shingle Street: a Black Redstart still present.

Alderton: an immature male Black Redstart ringed in a garden.

Landguardthree White Wagtails and three Black Redstarts present.

Loompit Lake: the Tundra Bean Goose still present.

March 23rd

Cortonthree male White Wagtails in a field to the south of Corton OSW.

Lowestoft: five Black Redstarts by the North Denes nest posts. Six Purple Sandpipers at Ness Point.

Kessingland: two Snow Buntings and a White Wagtail by the shore pools.

Wenhaston: a male Black Redstart at Beckers View.

North Warren: three Spoonbills and 90 Eurasian White-fronted Geese.

Southwold: four immature Black Redstarts by the Harbour Inn plus two in the campsite.

Sizewell: three Black Redstarts around the fishing boats.

Thorpeness: a drake Goosander on the Meare.

North Warren: three Spoonbills and 90 Eurasian White-fronted Geese on North Marsh.

Boyton Marsh: large number Eurasian White-fronted Geese.

Hollesley Marsh: a Black Redstart on Warren Hill prison roof.

Shingle Street: a Black Redstart still present near the Martello Tower.

Landguarda Firecrest plus three White Wagtails and four Black Redstarts on the Common.

Framlingham: a Black Redstart present.

 

March 22nd

Cortona male Ring Ouzel landed in trees at the southern end of Corton Woods.

Kessingland: a Crane flew low north.

Southwold: a Black Redstart along Ferry Road.

Minsmere: the first Sandwich Tern of the year on South Scrape at dusk.

Thorpeness: a Black Redstart on the beach north of OCP.

North Warren: four Spoonbills, 116 Eurasian White-fronted Geese and a first-winter Caspian Gull on North Marsh. a first-winter Caspian Gull and two Goosanders in flight on North Marsh.

Butley: two Black Redstarts in a garden.

Boyton Marsh: a Little Ringed Plover, a White Wagtail and c.220 Eurasian White-fronted Geese. The latter flew north early afternoon.

Hollesley Marsh: a Little Ringed Plover on the scrape.

Landguardthree White Wagtails and a Black Redstart on the Common.

Loompit Lake: both the Tundra Bean Goose and Pink-footed Goose again present.

Lackford Lakesa Little Gull over the sailing lake.

 

March 21st

Southwold: a Black Redstart behind the Harbour Inn and two White Wagtails just to the north on Town Marsh.

Hinton: a first of the year singing Willow Warbler near the 5-ways crossroads.

Westleton: a Black Redstart at Grange View.

Minsmere: a Black Redstart and two Little Gulls on East Scrape.

North Warren: three Spoonbills on North Marsh plus 116 Eurasian White-fronted Geese.

Shingle Street: male and female Black Redstarts at the Battery Cottage.

Bawdsey: four Purple Sandpipers on sea defences at East Lane.

Giffords Flash: an adult winter Little Gull and the first Swallow of the year.

Lowestoft: the first Wheatear of the year just north of Ness Point.

Walberswick: a HOODED CROW from the Bird Hide.

Felixstowe: a Firecrest along the woodland trail.

Orford: four Little Gulls and two Spoonbills north over the quay.

Boyton Marsh: c.364 Eurasian White-fronted Geese present.

Giffords Flash: a Hawfinch by East Lodge.

Lackford Lakes: four Little Gulls over the sailing lake.

Minsmere: the HOODED CROW flew over the Scrape then high west.

Sizewell: a HOODED CROW flew north.

 

March 18th

Lowestoft: 11 Purple Sandpipers at Ness Point.

Minsmere: a Garganey reported.

North Warren: three Spoonbills on North Marsh.

Landguard: a Raven over.

 

March 17th

Sotterley: 25+ Hawfinches by the church.

North Warren: three Spoonbills on North Marsh plus seven Eurasian White-fronted Geese.

Hollesley Marsh: two Eurasian White-fronted Geese in a flooded field beyond the sluice.

 

March 16th

Walberswick: six Snow Buntings on the beach.

Hemley: a Raven.

March 15th

Southwold: a female/first-winter Black Redstart by the boating lake.

Minsmere: seven Caspian Gulls on East Scrape, a Water Pipit in front of Island Mere and another Water Pipit present from Wildlife Lookout Hide.

Sizewell: four Caspian Gulls on pig fields.

North Warren: three Spoonbills on South Marsh before flying south plus 77 Eurasian White-fronted Geese on North Marsh.

Aldeburgh Estuary: the Great Northern Diver again off the old Brick Dock.

Hollesley Marsh: 283 Eurasian White-fronted Geese on the scrape.

Martlesham: a Hawfinch by the church.

Ipswich: a Black Redstart at Ravenswood.

Flatford: nine Hawfinches still in the main National Trust car park.

March 14th

Minsmere: a Jack Snipe from North Hide and a Water Pipit present from Wildlife Lookout Hide.

Alde Estuary: the Great Northern Diver still on the river.

Hollesley Marsh: the Cattle Egret again and 220+ Eurasian White-fronted Geese.

Holbrook: at least three Hawfinches again around All Saints Church.

 

March 13th

Southwold: a Black Redstart in the churchyard.

Alde Estuary: the Great Northern Diver still on the river.

Aldeburgh Marsh: 20 Eurasian White-fronted Geese and four Spoonbills flew over.

Hollesley Marsh: the Cattle Egret again and 200+ Eurasian White-fronted Geese.

 

March 12th

A WHITE-TAILED EAGLE tracked at a few locations:

> Westleton: heading south over the heath (10:45).

> Minsmere: over the Scrape and gaining height before heading north (12:54)

Reydon: heading north (13:11).

Reydon Smere: heading north (13:18).

Alde Estuary: a Great northern Diver off the old brick dock.

Boyton Marsh: c.200 Eurasian White-fronted Geese still present on the new scrape.

Upper Hollesley Common: two Bramblings at the top of bridleway near sign S7.

 

March 11th

Minsmere: a Raven and a Water Pipit present plus the first Sand Martins of the year at Island Mere.

North Warren: a WHITE-TAILED EAGLE over that drifted westwards plus five Spoonbills and two Ravens.

Hollesley Marsh: a Spoonbill.

March 10th

Minsmere: a Spoonbill on West Scrape.

North Warren: two Spoonbills.

Hollesley Marsh: an early Whimbrel on the flood in front of the café.

Martlesham: a Hawfinch by the church.

Flatford: a Hawfinch in trees just after Flatford Mill.

 

March 9th

Lowestoft: 12 Purple Sandpipers at Ness Point.

Dunwich: a Black Redstart by the Coastguard Cottages.

North Warren: two Spoonbills on North Marsh and a Firecrest in woodland near The Fen.

Orfordness: a WHITE-TAILED EAGLE flew over Hollesley onto the site.

Boyton Marsh: 250+ Eurasian White-fronted Geese still present.

Bawdsey: six Purple Sandpipers at East Lane.

Bawdsey Quay: a Firecrest at the picnic site.

Trimley Marsh: seven Eurasian White-fronted Geese seen from the viewing platform.

Lakenheath Fen: two Cattle Egret.

 

March 8th

Kessingland: a Black Redstart at Heritage Green.

Hen Reedbeds: a Hen Harrier flew west.

North Warren: two Spoonbills on North Marsh.

Aldeburgh Marsh: 27 Eurasian White-fronted Geese present.

Botany Marsh: the HOODED CROW again present.

Hollesley Marsh: the Cattle Egret again in front of the prison.

Woodbridge: a Crane circling over Dobbie's Garden Centre/A12.

Trimley Marsh: a WHITE-TAILED EAGLE over the reserve.

Cattawade: a Water Pipit on north marsh east of the A137.

Flatford: five Hawfinches still west of Judas Gap.

March 7th

Kessingland: a Black Redstart at Heritage Green.

Minsmere: a Spoonbill on West Scrape.

North Warren: three Spoonbills on North Marsh

Boyton Marsh: 250+ Eurasian White-fronted Geese and a Raven north.

Hollesley Marsh: the Cattle Egret again in front of the prison.

 

March 6th

Minsmere: two Cranes in flight towards the Levels.

North Warren: a Spoonbill on North Marsh and two Goosanders on South Marsh.

Boyton Marsh: c.300 Eurasian White-fronted Geese and four Spoonbills that flew over to Havergate Island.

Felixstowe: a Firecrest by the bridge to the new development at The Grove.

Erwarton: a Raven at Shop Corner.

March 5th

Kessingland: the Shore Lark still present on the beach opposite the caravan park.

Flatford: nine Hawfinches still west of Judas Gap.

March 4th

Kessingland: the Shore Lark still present on the beach opposite the caravan park.

Flatford: three Hawfinches still west of Judas Gap.

 

March 3rd

Walberswick: 25 Snow Buntings still on the beach.

 

March 2nd

Kessingland: the Shore Lark still present on the beach opposite the caravan park.

Benacre: two Bewick's Swans on the Broad.

Walberswick: 26 Snow Buntings still on the beach between Walberswick and Dunwich.

North Warren: two Spoonbills on South Marsh and 51 Eurasian White-fronted Geese on North Marsh.

Orfordness: the WHITE-TAILED EAGLE over (viewed from Boyton). It was seen feeding on the Gedgrave side of Butley River before flying over to Orfordness.

Flatford: six Hawfinches still west of Judas Gap.

March 1st

Walberswick: 20+ Snow Buntings still on the shingle ridge.

Havergate Island: 13 Spoonbills.

Shingle Street: a WHITE-TAILED EAGLE (from the Isle of Wight scheme).

Loompit Lake: a Raven.

Holbrook: at least five Hawfinches again around All Saints Church.
