April 2026 Sightings

April 10th

Lowestoft: the Hume's Warbler again in Sparrow's Nest Garden.

Minsmere: a Ring Ouzel by the sluice.

Boyton Marsh: two Cranes south. A WHITE-TAILED EAGLE soaring over.

​Shingle Street: the WHITE-TAILED EAGLE continued south inland.

Loompit Lake: the first Turtle Dove of the year.

Willisham: a male Redstart in a garden.

 

April 9th

Lowestoft: the Hume's Warbler again in Sparrow's Nest Garden. Three Purple Sandpipers just north of Ness Point.

 

A WHITE-TAILED EAGLE was noted at a few locations:

> Lowestoft: flew high south (12:59). 

> Kessingland: high south over The Hollies (13:02).

> Benacre: heading inland (13:10).

> Easton Broad: heading south (13:25).

> Westleton: over Mount Pleasant (13:58).

> Minsmere: viewed from Whin Hill (14:02). Then a second bird in the area (14:07).

​Minsmere: a male PALLID HARRIER south. A 2CY Little Gull on West Scrape.

​Felixstowe Ferry: an ALPINE SWIFT low over the Ferryboat Inn pub.

 

April 8th

Corton: a Firecrest in Corton Wood.

​Covehithe: a male Ring Ouzel on the meadow south of Covehithe Broad.

​Southwold: a Spoonbill on the scrape by the old railway line.

​Aldeburgh Marsh: the pair of Garganey still present on the pool near the allotments.

Hollesley Marsh: two Spoonbills and a Little Ringed Plover on the scrape.

Alton Water: an Osprey over.

Elmswell: a male Ring Ouzel flushed from fields north of Lawn Farm quarry.

​Lackford Lakes: four Little Ringed Plovers on the Slough.

 

April 7th

Carlton Marsh: a pair of Garganey still on Peto's Marsh plus two Little Ringed Plovers.

Worlingham Marsh: the first Cuckoo of the year.

Westleton: the first Nightingale of the year.

Boyton Marsh: two Cattle Egrets with cattle.

Shingle Street: at Raven flying south over Twin Banks.

Martlesham Wilds: two Little Ringed Plovers from the viewing platform.

Woodbridge: the first Nightingales of the year with three around Broomheath and Kyson.

 

April 6th

Kessingland: eight Shore Larks again in the usual area plus a White Wagtail and a Little Ringed Plover.

Southwold: a female/first-winter male Black Redstart at the harbour by the fishing boats.

Dunwich: a Black-throated Diver offshore slowly heading north.

Minsmere: a Garganey still present.

Martlesham Wilds: two Water Pipits.

Landguard: the SERIN again on site.

Suffolk Water Park: a female Goosander.

April 5th

Lowestoft: six Purple Sandpipers just north of Ness Point.

Kessingland: a Black Redstart at Benacre Sluice.

Dingle Marsh: a drake GREEN-WINGED TEAL.

Minsmere: Spoonbill on the Scrape and a drake Garganey from South Hide.

Martlesham Wilds: two Water Pipits and two Little Ringed Plovers from the viewing platform.

 

April 4th

A WHITE STORK was tracked south at a few locations:

> Oulton Marsh: circling low over (12:04). 

> Carlton Marsh: circling north end of Peto's Marsh (12:04) before drifting over by the visitor centre (12:08).

> Carlton Colville: drifting over (12:15). 

> Kessingland: gone over the wind turbines (12:28). 

> Benacre: low south over Benacre Church (12:32). 

> Blyth Estuary: circling high (13:17). 

> Walberswick: very high over the village (13:25).

​

Carlton Marsh: a pair of Garganey still on Peto's Marsh.

Kessingland: five Shore Larks again in the usual area and a Black Redstart at Benacre Sluice.

Minsmere: the first Common Tern of the year on East Scrape and a pair of Garganey on South Scrape.

Martlesham Wilds: two Water Pipits.

Landguard: a male SERIN singing on site.

 

April 3rd

Carlton Marsh: a pair of Garganey still on Peto's Marsh plus a Water Pipit.

Kessingland: five Shore Larks again in the usual area.

Snape Marsh: a Glossy Ibis flew upstream.

Hollesley Marsh: Yellow-legged Gull and a Little Ringed Plover on the scrape.

Shingle Street: two Firecrests at the allotments.

Trimley Marsh: Firecrest.

April 2nd

Gorleston: a Black-throated Diver offshore.

Kessingland: five Shore Larks again between the pillbox and Pakefield coastwatch.

Southwold: the first Yellow Wagtail of the year over North Marsh and three Pink-footed Geese on the marsh.

Minsmere: a Little Stint on East Scrape and a pair of Garganey in front of South Hide.

Shelley: a pair of LESSER SCAUP on Gifford's Flash.

​

April 1st

Carlton Marsh: a drake Garganey on Peto's Marsh still.

Kessingland: five Shore Larks again on the beach just south of Pakefield coastwatch.

Minsmere: a Black-throated Diver offshore, off the end of the North Wall and a Spoonbill on East Scrape.
