August 31st

Oulton Broad: a HOOPOE in a private garden (for 6th day).

Kessingland: the BARRED WARBLER again present north of Benacre Sluice.

Covehithe Broad: RED-NECKED PHALAROPE on the Broad, that flew out to sea and then back again.

Walberswick: six FAN-TAILED WARBLERS still present in the same area.

Minsmere: two Spoonbills flew over.

Sizewell: an Osprey flew north.

Aldeburgh Marsh: four Curlew Sandpiperseight Whinchats and an Osprey.

Iken: an Osprey fishing on the river by Iken Cliffs.

Snape: an Osprey flew east down river over Snape Maltings.

Gedgrave Marsh: a Whinchat and an Osprey south.

Shingle Street: seven Whinchats.

Pipps Ford: a Whinchat again on the fence line footpath to the railway line.

Breydon Water: Little Stint and two Curlew Sandpipers.

Kessingland: the BARRED WARBLER again present north of Benacre Sluice.

Walberswick: 2+ FAN-TAILED WARBLERS still present in the same area. A PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER flew north.

Minsmere: a Common Redstart at Mount Pleasant.

Aldeburgh Marsh: four Curlew Sandpipers, a Wood Sandpiperthree Whinchats and an Osprey.

​​Shingle Street: three Whinchats and a RED-BACKED SHRIKE around the tennis courts.

Landguard: 2+ Pied Flycatchers, a Whinchat, a Common Redstart and a Tree Sparrow at LBO.

August 29th

Flixton: a Crane over the village.

Lowestoft: a juvenile Long-tailed Skua north off Ness Point.

Kessingland: Long-tailed Skua reported south offshore.

Walberswick: 3+ FAN-TAILED WARBLERS still present in the same area.

Sizewell: an Arctic Tern and two Little Gulls by the outfall.

Alde estuary: two Whinchats.

Hazlewood Marsh: an Osprey fishing.

Boyton Marsh: the BLACK STORK again present along the dyke.

Landguard: three Arctic Skuas south and two Black Redstarts.

Pipps Ford: a Whinchat on the fence line footpath to the railway line.

 

August 28th

Lowestoft: a Dutch colour-ringed juvenile Caspian Gull at Ness Point.

Kessingland: the BARRED WARBLER still present north of Benacre Sluice.

Benacre: Little Stint, two Wood Sandpipers and three Spoonbills on the Broad.

Easton Bavents: a juvenile RED-BACKED SHRIKE at the sheep paddocks.

Reydon Marsh: three Whinchats viewed from Quay Lane.

Walberswick: 1+ FAN-TAILED WARBLERS still present.

Westleton Heath: a Whinchat.

Aldeburgh Marsh: nine Curlew Sandpipersthree Whinchats and a Pied Flycatcher.

Iken: two Ospreys along the river.

Boyton Marsh: the BLACK STORK on the lake by Boyton Hall Farm.

Hollesley Marsh: two Whinchats.

​​Shingle Street: three Whinchats around the tennis courts and four Tree Sparrows towards Bawdsey that then flew high south.

 

August 27th

Breydon Water: two juvenile Curlew Sandpipers.

Lowestoft: a juvenile Long-tailed Skua north off Ness Point.

Kessingland: the BARRED WARBLER still present north of Benacre Sluice.

Wangford: a possible juvenile PURPLE HERON flew towards Easton Broad.

Walberswick: at least two FAN-TAILED WARBLERS still present and an adult Caspian Gull at the harbour.

Aldeburgh Marsh: nine Curlew Sandpipersseven Whinchats and an Osprey fishing over the river. A LESSER GOLDEN PLOVER species flew across the River Alde, just west of Slaughden.

Boyton Marsh: the BLACK STORK on the lake by Boyton Hall Farm.

Felixstowe Ferry: a juvenile Caspian Gull.

Trimley Marsh: a WOOD WARBLER by the viewpoint.

August 26th

Kessingland: the BARRED WARBLER again present.

Walberswick: at least three FAN-TAILED WARBLERS still present.

Aldeburgh Marsh: a juvenile Curlew SandpiperGlossy Ibis and a Cattle Egret.

Hazlewood Marsh: an Osprey fishing.

Orfordness: at least five Whinchats noted and an Osprey flew over.

Boyton Marsh: the BLACK STORK on the lake by Boyton Hall Farm.

Landguard: Whinchat.

Helmingham: Pied Flycatcher at the Hall.

August 25th

Kessingland: the BARRED WARBLER again present.

Walberswick: still two FAN-TAILED WARBLERS present and a Ruddy Shelduck on pools south of the beach huts. Later two Ruddy Shelducks flew south towards Dingle Marsh.

Aldeburgh: an Arctic Skua south.

Aldeburgh Marsh: four Ruddy Shelducks flew across to Orfordness, one Ruddy Shelduck on the pool near the allotment plus an Osprey up river towards Hazlewood Marsh.

Hazlewood Marsh: a Curlew Sandpiper plus a Pied Flycatcher.

Boyton Marsh: the BLACK STORK still present along the dyke.

Hollesley Marsh: a Whinchat by the pill box along the river wall.

​​Shingle Street: a GREENISH WARBLER by the allotments.

Landguard: Pied Flycatcher at LBO.

August 24th

Kessingland: an BARRED WARBLER north of the sluice and two Whinchats in the dunes opposite Heathlands.

Hen Reedbeds: nine Spoonbills.

Walberswick: the family party of six FAN-TAILED WARBLERS (two adult and four juveniles) and a Ruddy Shelduck on pools south of the beach huts.

Aldringham: an Osprey over towards Thorpeness.

Aldeburgh Marsh: a juvenile Curlew Sandpipertwo Wood Sandpipers, four Ruddy Shelducks and a juvenile limosa Black-tailed Godwit.

Hazlewood Marsh: an Osprey, two Curlew Sandpipers, ten Spoonbills and two Cattle Egrets.

Boyton Marsh: the BLACK STORK still present along the dyke.

​​Shingle Street: four Ruddy Shelducks flew south.

Witnesham: an adult Caspian Gull following a plough.​

​August 23rd

Carlton Marsh: three Cattle Egrets with cows off the main track.

Walberswick: a family party of five FAN-TAILED WARBLERS (an adult and four juveniles).

Minsmere: a Tree Pipit at Mount Pleasant.

Aldeburgh Marsh: two Garganey and Ruddy Shelducks.

Hazlewood Marsh: two Cattle Egrets and nine Spoonbills plus two Ospreys from the hide.

Boyton Marsh: the BLACK STORK still present along the dyke plus two DOTTERELS flew over.

Shingle Street: a Pied Flycatcher in the rear garden of the Martello Tower.

Landguard: a Pied Flycatcher at LBO and a Purple Sandpiper on the Point.

August 22nd

Walberswick: a family party of five FAN-TAILED WARBLERS (two adults and three juveniles) noted - it represents the first breeding record of the species in the UK. A Ruddy Shelduck on the shorepools.

Minsmere: a Whinchat at the end of the North Wall.

Sizewell: 16 Little Gulls and a juvenile Arctic Tern.

Aldeburgh Marsh: three Ruddy Shelducks still present.

Hazlewood Marsh: eight Spoonbillstwo Cattle Egrets, an Osprey plus a Glossy Ibis.

Orford: the BLACK STORK seen in flight from Orford Quay.

Boyton Marsh: the BLACK STORK still present along the dyke.

Landguard: a Pied Flycatcher at LBO and a Purple Sandpiper on the Point.

August 21st

Lowestoft: Manx Shearwater north and Long-tailed Skua south off Ness Point.

Southwold: the earlier Long-tailed Skua from Ness Point seen heading south.

Walberswick: the FAN-TAILED WARBLER still present.

Minsmere: Manx Shearwater offshore.

North Warren: a Pied Flycatcher.

Aldeburgh Marsh: two juvenile Curlew Sandpipers and two Garganey on the main lagoon plus four Ruddy Shelducks on the allotment pools.

Hazlewood Marsh: the adult WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER again.

Shingle Street: two Pied Flycatchers.

Landguard: two Pied Flycatchers at LBO.

August 20th

Lowestoft: a dark juvenile Long-tailed Skua north off Ness Point.

Walberswick: the FAN-TAILED WARBLER still present, a Ruddy Shelduck on the shorepools plus six Spoonbills. and a Whinchat on the beach south of the Buckthorn clump.

Slaughden: an Arctic Skua north.

Aldeburgh Marsh: a Curlew Sandpiper, two Wood Sandpipers, two Garganey and four Ruddy Shelducks.

Hazlewood Marsh: the adult WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER again.

Boyton Marsh: the BLACK STORK still present along the dyke.

Gorleston: three Arctic Skuas south.

Lowestoft: a Pomarine Skua and an Arctic Skua south off Ness Point.

Walberswick: the FAN-TAILED WARBLER still present and a Ruddy Shelduck on the shorepools.

Aldeburgh: a Pied Flycatcher by the tennis courts.

Aldeburgh Marsh: a Curlew Sandpiper, a Wood Sandpiper, a Garganey and four Ruddy Shelducks.

Hazlewood Marsh: the adult WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER again.

Boyton Marsh: the BLACK STORK still present along the dyke.

Shingle Street: two Whinchats by the tennis courts.

Landguard: a Whinchat on the common in front of LBO and a Pied Flycatcher in the compound.

Flowton: two Ravens over.

Shelley: three Wood Sandpipers at Giffords Flash.

August 18th

Lowestoft: the GREENISH WARBLER still present in Tamarisks at Ness Point. Two Great Skuas and one Arctic Skua south.

Walberswick: the FAN-TAILED WARBLER still present and a juvenile Caspian Gull at the harbour.

Aldeburgh Marsh: an adult Curlew Sandpiper, two Wood Sandpipers, a Garganey, three Cattle Egrets, a juvenile limosa Black-tailed Godwit and four Ruddy Shelducks.

Hazlewood Marsh: an adult WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER, a Glossy Ibis flew north-east plus a juvenile Arctic Tern flew up river. An Osprey from the hide.

Boyton Marsh: the BLACK STORK still present along the dyke.

Lowestoft: the GREENISH WARBLER still present in Tamarisks at Ness Point.

Walberswick: the FAN-TAILED WARBLER still present.

Aldeburgh Marsh: two Wood Sandpipers, a Garganey, a juvenile limosa Black-tailed Godwit and four Ruddy Shelducks.

Hazlewood Marsh: an adult WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER.

Boyton Marsh: the BLACK STORK still present along the dyke.

Shingle Street: a Whinchat by the tennis courts.

Bawdsey Marsh: a Corn Bunting.

August 16th

Lowestoft: a GREENISH WARBLER in sewage works yard, near Birds Eye factory, at Ness Point.

Walberswick: the FAN-TAILED WARBLER still present.

Aldeburgh Marsh: six Wood Sandpipers on the main pools and four Ruddy Shelducks on the north pools.

Boyton Marsh: the BLACK STORK still present along the dyke.

Hollesley: a White Stork over.

Shingle Street: a Whinchat by the tennis courts.

Landguard: two Pied Flycatchers at LBO.

August 15th

Southwold: two Pied Flycatchers by the sewage works Birch/Oak clump.

Walberswick: the FAN-TAILED WARBLER still present.

Minsmere: a Little Stint on East Scrape.

Aldeburgh: a Firecrest near the tennis courts.

Aldeburgh Marsh: two Garganey, four Ruddy Shelducks, two Whinchats, a juvenile limosa Black-tailed Godwit and an Osprey upriver. Two Pied Flycatchers and a Spotted Flycatcher in the wooded conservation area.

Hazlewood Marsh: three Cattle Egrets and eight Spoonbills.

Orford: a Pied Flycatcher on the north edge of the village.

Boyton Marsh: the BLACK STORK still present along the dyke, east of Boyton Hall Farm.

Shingle Street: a Whinchat by the tennis courts.

Landguard: a Pied Flycatcher and a Whinchat at LBO.

​August 14th

Walberswick: the FAN-TAILED WARBLER still present.

Minsmere: an Common Redstart at Vault Hill.

Aldeburgh Marsh: two Garganey, four Ruddy Shelducks, a Spoonbill, a juvenile limosa Black-tailed Godwit and three Little Gulls.

Boyton Marsh: the BLACK STORK still present along the dyke, east of Boyton Hall Farm.

Landguard: two Pied Flycatcher and two Common Redstarts at LBO.

Livermere Lake: an adult Caspian Gull, three Yellow-legged Gulls and a Cattle Egret.

 

August 13th

Corton: two Pied Flycatchers, one along the old rail line and one in the south-west corner of the new sewage works.

Lowestoft: a Pied Flycatcher in trees along Crop Shop Alley.

Benacre: an adult Black Tern at the Broad.

Walberswick: the FAN-TAILED WARBLER still present and a Ruddy Shelduck on pools south of the black huts.

Aldeburgh Marsh: a Garganey, four Ruddy Shelducks, a limosa Black-tailed Godwit and ten Little Gulls.

Boyton Marsh: the BLACK STORK still present along the dyke and a PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER flew north and later relocated on the River Alde/Butley Creek confluence.

Shingle Street: a Pied Flycatcher.

Landguard: a Pied Flycatcher trapped and ringed at LBO.

August 12th

Lowestoft: a juvenile Caspian Gull on the Birdseye roof at Ness Point.

Southwold: a Sooty Shearwater flew north.

Walberswick: the FAN-TAILED WARBLER still present.

Aldeburgh Marsh: three Cattle Egrets on the flash before flying south, four Spoonbills upriver and a Little Gull.

Hazlewood Marsh: a Curlew Sandpiper.

Boyton Marsh: the BLACK STORK still present along the dyke and four Ruddy Shelducks flew north over the reserve.

Shingle Street: a Whinchat.

Thetford: the PURPLE HERON again at Nunnery Lakes.

August 11th

Walberswick: the FAN-TAILED WARBLER still present.

Dunwich: a Whinchat in reed and gorse 800m north of the beach car park.

Boyton Marsh: the BLACK STORK still present along the dyke.

Claydon: a White Stork in a field near the village.

Stowmarket: a Pied Flycatcher at Farriers Road.

Thetford: a PURPLE HERON at Nunnery Lakes.

August 10th

Walberswick: the FAN-TAILED WARBLER still present, a Ruddy Shelduck on pools south of the car park and a juvenile Caspian Gull at the harbour.

Boyton Marsh: the BLACK STORK still present along the dyke.

Landguard: a Pied Flycatcher at LBO.

August 9th

Corton: a Pied Flycatcher along the old disused rail track.

Kessingland: a Pied Flycatcher trapped and ringed by the small reedbed opposite the sewage works.

Southwold: a Pied Flycatcher by the sewage works.

Walberswick: the FAN-TAILED WARBLER still present all day and two new juvenile Caspian Gulls at the harbour.

Sudbourne: a ringtail Harrier species high north between Sudbourne and Orford plus Pied Flycatcher.

Boyton Marsh: the BLACK STORK still present along the dyke.

Shingle Street: a Pied Flycatcher in Poplars at the start of the allotment.

Bawdsey: a Black Redstart at East Lane plus Pied Flycatcher along the concrete track.

Landguard: a Pied Flycatcher trapped and ringed at LBO.

August 8th

Lowestoft: two adult Black Terns feeding off North Beach plus another south.

Walberswick: the FAN-TAILED WARBLER still present all day and a juvenile Caspian Gull at the harbour.

Thorpeness: 12 Little Gulls south offshore.

Boyton Marsh: the BLACK STORK still present along the dyke.

Hollesley: a Wood Warbler trapped and ringed at a private ringing site.

Walberswick: the FAN-TAILED WARBLER still present all day

Boyton Marsh: the BLACK STORK still present along the dyke, east of Boyton Hall Farm plus a juvenile Spoonbill on the river.

Felixstowe: a NIGHT HERON recorded by nocmig at 2am.

August 6th

Southwold: a juvenile Caspian Gull at the harbour.

Walberswick: the FAN-TAILED WARBLER still present all day.

Hazlewood Marsh: a Curlew Sandpiper and eight Spoonbills.

Boyton Marsh: the BLACK STORK still present along the dyke, east of Boyton Hall Farm.

Bawdsey: an Osprey flew high north-west.

Walberswick: the FAN-TAILED WARBLER still present all day near the Buckthorn clump, 800m south of the harbour.

Aldeburgh Marsh: six Spoonbills.

Hazlewood Marsh: a Curlew Sandpiper present on the rising tide before flying towards Aldeburgh Marsh.

Boyton Marsh: the BLACK STORK again showing well.

Walberswick: a FAN-TAILED WARBLER 800m south of the harbour near a clump of Buckthorn. A juvenile Caspian Gull at the harbour.

Minsmere: an Arctic Skua north.

Sizewell: 12 Little Gulls and two Caspian Gulls.

Aldeburgh Marsh: two Wood Sandpipers and a Curlew Sandpiper.

Boyton Marsh: the BLACK STORK again showing well, a Curlew Sandpiper and a HONEY-BUZZARD north.

August 2nd

Lowestoft: a Great Skua north past Ness Point.

Benacre: four Spoonbills and a Curlew Sandpiper on the Broad.

Minsmere: three Arctic Skuas offshore, Curlew Sandpiper and Wood Sandpiper on South Scrape plus ten Little Gulls on East Scrape.

Aldeburgh Marsh: two Wood Sandpipers.

Boyton Marsh: the BLACK STORK again showing well.

Ramsholt: a Wood Sandpiper.

Walberswick: four juvenile unringed Caspian Gulls at the harbour.

Dunwich: an Arctic Skua close inshore.

Aldeburgh Marsh: seven Spoonbills and two Wood Sandpipers.

Hazlewood Marsh: an adult Curlew Sandpiper and eight Spoonbills.
