On Sunday 21 June Suffolk Bird Group are doing a day of birdwatching activities – either walks or from watch points to showcase some of the birds we have in the county. With the date selected to coincide with the day being celebrated as Suffolk Day, where there are ceremonies and activities that celebrate the county of Suffolk; this was originated by Mark Murphy of BBC Radio Suffolk in 2016 with the first ceremony in 2017. The SBG committee decided that, with Suffolk Day being on a Sunday, and with the group being the bird organisation of the county that it would be good if we could celebrate the birds of Suffolk. A sub-committee was formed, and we planned a list of events, from the watching Kittiwakes that have their most southernmost breeding colonies on the east coast in Suffolk, to highlight some of our excellent reserves such as RSPB Lakenheath Fen. Suffolk is blessed with a number of estuaries so a watchpoint on one of these was suggested along with a couple of Swift walks to highlight the excellent work that Save Our Suffolk Swifts has done since forming. The events are to engage with the public to show what the group is involved in and to promote the wonderful birds we have on our doorstep.
Here is a list of activities for the day, we hope to see you there.
