BOSS Sizewell Mitigation Project Update

Following one of our busiest and most rewarding summers monitoring and ringing Barn Owls across Suffolk, we’re pleased to have begun installing the first nest boxes as part of the Sizewell mitigation project, supported by the East Suffolk Farmland Bird Support Fund from East Suffolk Council.

After such an encouraging breeding season, it’s wonderful to be turning our attention to creating even more nesting sites for the years ahead. The first boxes are now in place, with many more to be installed over the coming months, helping to replace nesting opportunities in areas affected by development.

A great deal of time has gone into identifying suitable locations, and we’re delighted with the sites we’ve been able to secure. Many are set within excellent Barn Owl country, and we’re hopeful they will soon become home to breeding pairs as the project develops. Watching these boxes become established will be one of the most rewarding parts of the project.

This is an important milestone, and we’re looking forward to sharing the project’s progress as more boxes are installed and, hopefully, occupied in the seasons to come.
