We are delighted to report that early indications suggest Suffolk's Barn Owls are having a
much better year in 2026.
After the disappointments of last season, we are receiving lots of positive reports from
across the county, with Barn Owls appearing to have started breeding earlier than usual.
We are especially pleased to say that we have already ringed our first owlets of the season,
and we are finding encouraging signs in many of the nest boxes monitored by the project.
While it's still early days and there is a long way to go before the breeding season is over,
the signs so far are certainly encouraging. It is wonderful to see so many occupied boxes
and hear of Barn Owl sightings from so many different areas.
As always, please keep your sightings coming in. Every report helps us build a clearer
picture of where barn owls are thriving and how they are faring across Suffolk. Whether it is
a bird hunting at dusk, perched on a fence post, or using a nest box, we would love to hear
from you.
If you have a Barn Owl box and haven't heard from one of our volunteers by now regarding a visit, please do get in touch and we will arrange for someone to come and check it.
And, of course, if you have any questions about your box, Barn Owls, or the project in
general, please don't hesitate to contact us. We are always happy to help.
For now, we are keeping everything crossed for good weather, plenty of food, and a
successful breeding season. It's fantastic to be sharing such positive news after the
challenges of last year, and we look forward to bringing you further updates as the season
progresses.
