We are absolutely delighted to share that BOSS has been awarded a mitigation grant from East Suffolk Council in connection with the works at Sizewell.
This funding will enable us to install additional barn owl boxes as part of the mitigation measures linked to the ongoing development. With habitat under increasing pressure, it is vital that we do everything we can to provide safe nesting opportunities in the right places — and this grant allows us to do just that.
What makes this especially exciting is that it has become a true community effort. Our fantastic local box builders, family members, and the brilliant Men’s Shed teams have all rolled up their sleeves to help. The timber has been sourced at a very favourable rate from local suppliers, ensuring quality materials while keeping costs sensible and making the funding stretch even further.
We are pleased to say that we have already identified a strong number of suitable sites, carefully selected for good surrounding habitat and hunting opportunities. As always, we are prioritising the very best locations to give barn owls the greatest possible chance of success. It’s not just about putting boxes up — it’s about putting them in the right places.
This project truly shows what can be achieved when local authorities, community groups, and volunteers work together with a shared goal: giving barn owls in Suffolk the best possible future.
More updates to follow as the boxes go up!
